Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are fast approaching the end of Term 1. It has been wonderful to see the awesome learning in the classrooms and the level of achievement that students are reaching.
We have many events and activities happening over the next 2 ½ weeks.
These events include; Naplan for our Year 3–5 students, Multicultural Lunch on Wednesday in our canteen, Year 1 to Bluey's World on Thursday, Year 5 Surf Skills day at Kings Beach on Thursday, Year 6 Surf Skills day at Kings Beach on Friday. Also on Friday is ride to school day and casual clothes for Harmony day.
In Week 9, Cross Country is on Tuesday and we have selected Year 2 students going to Humpybong State School for a Scratch Jnr Challenge Day on Wednesday (Technology event).
In Week 10, we will have a back up Cross Country (if it rains next week), Whole School Assembly (Wednesday), Open Classrooms on Thursday afternoon from 2pm and the Prep-2 Easter Hat Parade (Friday).
A reminder that our Parent Teacher Interviews are on Monday 28th April (Week 2 of Term 2).
SIGN OUT PROCESS
We will continue the same sign out process for when children are leaving school early. Parents will need to come to the office, sign their children out on the iPad in the reception area. Parents will receive a printed slip which they will show the office staff who will let them through the office door. Parents will then go to the child’s classroom, give the printed slip to the teacher and collect the child. At break times the child will be called over the load speaker as it is difficult to locate the child during break times.
There will be a specialist timetable on the wall near the iPad so parents can see where their child is located in the school. Also, teachers will have a notice on their door to indicate where the class is. Eg STEM, MUSIC, PE, Library.
Steps to sign children out early:
- Sign your child out on the ipad in the foyer.
- Collect the printed sign out ticket.
- Show the office staff the ticket, they will let you into the school.
- Walk to your child’s classroom.
- Give the printed ticket to the classroom teacher.
- Collect your child and exit via the office administration.

Greetings to our Bellmere Community,
NAPLAN Testing – Year 3 and 5
I have been proud of the students who were sitting the NAPLAN tests this week for their focus and determination, but this goes for any learning tasks in any other learning experience also.
Results will be sent to parents later in the year.
Communication between parents and children during the school day
Just a quick reminder that communication between parent and child during the school day should occur only through the office or through a teacher. We have had a number of instances where children have been messaging and calling their parents through the day from their iPads. Students have been reminded of this expectation also. Please have this conversation with them at home to remind them to seek support from a staff member if they wish to speak with you. Thank you in advance.
Upcoming Noteworthy Dates This Fortnight
- NAPLAN tests for Year 3 and 5 – Monday 17th – Monday 24th March
- P-2 Assembly – Wednesday 19th March

It is very important that the school is notified of any student absences. The Department of Education requires a reason for each and every absence.
The methods for advising absences are as follows:
By email - admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au
By telephone - 5498 0666 - there is a dedicated absentee line where you can leave a message 24 hours per day.
Q Parents - if you have registered for the Q Parents app, you can advise absences this way
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I would like to inform you that we have had a confirmed case of Impetigo (School Sores) from students in Year 3 and Year 5.
For your information, I have included some information below:
Symptoms of Impetigo
• the skin itches and reddens
• a collection of blisters forms, commonly around the nose and mouth
• the blisters pop and weep a yellow, sticky fluid
• the area develops a raised and wet-looking crust
• the scab dries and falls off
• the skin completely heals after a few days.
To Avoid Spreading Impetigo
Impetigo blisters and crusts are filled with bacteria. This makes the condition highly contagious, particularly when the site is weeping. The skin is usually itchy, so the child scratches and spreads the infection from under their fingernails to other areas of the body or to another person. Infection can also be spread by handling contaminated clothing or articles. Suggestions to reduce the risk of transmission to other family members include:
• Encourage everyone to wash their hands with soap frequently, and dry completely.
• A child with impetigo should be kept home from school or day care until appropriate treatment has begun and the sores on exposed areas are covered with a waterproof occlusive dressing.
• Cut your child’s fingernails short and encourage them not to scratch scabs or pick their nose.
• Avoid scratching or touching the sores to prevent spread to other areas of the body. Use a crepe bandage if necessary.
• Keep affected areas of skin clean and covered to minimise the chance of spreading the infection.
• Always wash your hands with soap before and after touching sores or scabs.
• Encourage children to use their own towel and face cloth. No sharing.
• Wash the child’s linen, towels and clothes in hot water. Wash all household linen in hot water while the infection is present.
• Dispose of used dressings promptly and thoroughly. Wash and dry hands after the dressings have been disposed of into a plastic bag and place bag into household waste.
Appropriate diagnosis and treatment for impetigo is antibiotics obtained from the doctor. If you suspect your child has impetigo, then please seek medical advice. Once treatment has commenced students can return to school 24 hours later.
Regards,
Jamie Tactor

This week in KindyLinQ!
Our KindyLinQ kids have had so much fun over the last couple of weeks!
I Spy on the Farm - took them on an adventure to visit the chickens and along the way, made a stop at the fishpond and even saw a native beehive! Some of KindyLinQ kids were brave enough to hold a real-life chicken! WOW!!

Last week, was all about healthy eating and Mrs Clarke read the famous Mem Fox storybook, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They went shopping in the home corner, while chatting about the difference between healthy food and treat food. The sun was shining so there was also lots of outdoor play! The theme continued this week into playgroup where they had a visit from Oral Health Care who have a very special interest in children's oral health and carry out examinations in a very gentle and non-invasive way. Keep an eye out for their next visit in Term 3!
