Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to welcome the whole school community back for Term 3. We are looking forward to a very productive and busy term.
In English, the students are focusing on a speaking and listening task where they compose a task that is then shared with their class via a speech or a video recording.
In Maths, we are working with a maths consultant to support our teachers in developing strategies for the students to think about their approaches to maths.
Our focus for PCL this term is building stamina and engagement. The focus for the first 2 weeks is knowing what strategies we can use to be successful in our learning. This is a focus throughout all of the learning areas. It is very important that children learn how to continue their learning even when it is challenging.
Like us as adults, we need to be resilient when times become tough. We are teaching the children:
- Learning can and should extend us into areas that stretch our abilities.
- Sometimes learning might even feel impossible.
- When we hit speed bumps (thoughts of ‘it is too hard, I can’t do it’) in our learning, we often feel vulnerable.
- We might feel that we are not good enough.
- We might feel that we are not smart enough.
- We look silly in front of our peers.
- We feel anxious or upset.
- These feelings are okay and normal. Learning is full of speed bumps!
Some of the strategies we discuss with the children are:
What could you do next time you hit a speed bump?
- practice mindful breathing.
- move and stretch, then refocus.
- ask a peer for help.
- re-read the text.
- search online.
- use positive self-talk.
- train the brain through Superflex thinking/growth mindset thinking.
- ask for a break.
- talk to the teacher.
- look at notes from the previous lesson.
- look for anything displayed around the room that might help.
- lean into challenges instead of avoiding them.
- do a body scan.
You may like to talk about speed bumps at home with your child and discuss what strategies would work for them. We all face challenging times and there are times when the speed bumps are different sizes, but it is very important we learn strategies that support us in these times.
Events For the Term
We have many different things happening outside the classroom this term.
Today we are hosting 6 other schools for a Year 4 Minecraft challenge. This week we also have District Athletics for selected children. In week 3, we are hosting principals and teachers from surrounding schools to look in our classrooms and talk to students about learning in English. There are a number of different excursions throughout the term, Gala Days (Year 5-6 children), swimming experience (Prep, Year 2, Year 4). In week 5, we have our Maths consultant doing demonstration lessons for staff. In week 6 is the Bellmere music festival, in week 9 is the Book Week character dress up and we have a school review in week 10.
It is wonderful that we provide so many great opportunities for our students outside of the classroom.
Please look out for more information via email if your child is involved in any of the above events.
Regards
Jamie Tactor

A special congratulations to our Year 5 and Year 6 students for their impressive performance.
We hope you’ve had the chance to admire the Junior and Senior “Snakes” displayed along the fences. These artworks exceeded all expectations and are a testament to the creativity of our students and staff.

Greetings to our Bellmere Community,
School Opinion Survey 2025
The suite of School Opinion Surveys is undertaken each year by the Department of Education to obtain opinions about our school from families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11). The surveys will help identify what we are doing well, and understand where we can improve. The survey invitation will be emailed in the week beginning 28 July and is titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025.
* Each school family will receive one email invitation from the Department of Education to complete.
* The Parent/Caregiver Survey. The survey is anonymous, and the results are reported in ways that an individual’s response can be identified by the school.
* Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to complete the survey. The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with an internet connection.
* For Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet school computers/tablets will be available. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.
* It’s important that as many parents/caregivers as possible complete the survey, so we would appreciate if members of this committee would raise awareness of this survey with other parents and caregivers.
* Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.

STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME PAYMENTS
Thank you to all parents who have made payments towards the Student Resource Scheme for 2025.
Payments can be made at anytime using the invoice BPoint link (amount can be changed to suit), via the QKR! App, direct deposit into the school bank account (BSB- 064-405 ACC – 10700604 using surname and SRS as reference) or by EFT in the office. If you made an instalment arrangement, the 3rd and final payment is due now.
We are happy to arrange alternative payment plans or Centrepay deductions if this method is not possible. Please email Sue Taylor, Business Manager, on stayl375@eq.edu.au or admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au to arrange this. Students will be able to receive their resources once a payment has been made.
QPARENTS
QParents links directly with One School, the program used by the school to store student information including personal details, absences, all report cards and finance information. Registration will need to be completed on a computer and then all further interactions can be done through the App on a phone or tablet. New parents will receive a QParents invitation code in the next week or two and current parents should already have received theirs previously. This link will guide you through the registration process. The fact sheet is provided for your information. If you cannot find your invitation email please send a request to admin@bellmeress.eq.edu and a new email will be sent to you. Your child’s EQ id is on the invoices we send you, directly below the address box at the top left of the invoice.
UNIFORM SHOP
The uniform shop will be open after school on Tuesday’s from 3:00-3.30pm.
However, QKR! ordering will remain the same and orders will still be delivered to your child’s class on Monday’s, Wednesday’s & Friday’s.
SIGN OUT PROCESS
We will continue the same sign out process for when children are leaving school early. Parents will need to come to the office, sign their children out on the iPad in the reception area. Parents will receive a printed slip which they will show the office staff who will let them through the office door. Parents will then go to the child’s classroom, give the printed slip to the teacher and collect the child. At break times the child will be called over the load speaker as it is difficult to locate the child during break times.
There will be a specialist timetable on the wall near the iPad so parents can see where their child is located in the school. Also, teachers will have a notice on their door to indicate where the class is. Eg STEM, MUSIC, PE, Library.
Steps to sign children out early:
- Sign your child out on the ipad in the foyer.
- Collect the printed sign out ticket.
- Show the office staff the ticket, they will let you into the school.
- Walk to your child’s classroom.
- Give the printed ticket to the classroom teacher.
- Collect your child and exit via the office administration.
It is very important that the school is notified of any student absences. The Department of Education requires a reason for each and every absence.
The methods for advising absences are as follows:
By email - admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au
By telephone - 5498 0666 - there is a dedicated absentee line where you can leave a message 24 hours per day.
Q Parents - if you have registered for the Q Parents app, you can advise absences this way.
Hello to our school community,
With the cold weather upon us I thought it was timely to remind everyone about our uniform policy and student dress code.
Our uniform policy is navy blue jumper and navy blue pants if necessary (not footless tights).
Before it gets too cold, we encourage you to purchase winter items that are in the navy blue school colour from the local shops. Best & Less and Big W both have a large supply of navy blue jumpers and pants.
Un-named items in school colours are washed are recycled. When possible (dependant on size and availability) they are given to students who either have no jumper or who have come to school in a non-uniform jumper.
Importantly, we want to remind you that jeans and hoodies are not part of the school uniform and we ask that you support the uniform policy at Bellmere State School by not sending your child to school in non-uniform items.
Any un named, non-school items, that cannot be reunited with its owner will be sent to charity.
I thank you for your time and for helping us to promote pride and a powerful school identity and communicate a positive image of our school as a highly regarded community of learners.
Thank you.
