Dear Parents/Carers,
This week you will notice music playing in the mornings. This is a part of our Bellmere Beat Fest week where we will have our choirs performing during break times, our instrumental students playing music and other activities. The children love this week and getting involved in celebrating our music program.
During week 3 of this term, we had principals, deputy principals and teachers visit from other local state primary and secondary schools. Our students discuss the purpose of their learning in their own words. The students can articulate what and why they are learning which leads to a greater understanding. The learning walls (Bump It Up Walls) in the classroom provide children with learning resources to support them to achieve higher outcomes. Teachers have worked very hard this term to support children by explicitly teaching what is needed to achieve an A, B and C and having children setting goals individually. I am very proud of the wonderful work teachers have been doing in their classrooms to support student learning.
Below is a message I received from Pete Keen, Principal at Morayfield SHS that they are including in their newsletter. You may have seen this on the Morayfield State High School facebook page.
“Recently, staff at Morayfield SHS, were able to attend Bellmere SS to participate in Learning Walks and Talks. Our Flexispace teacher was inspired to trial some of the strategies used at Bellmere in the Morayfield SHS Flexispace.
As a result, at Morayfield SHS, our Year 8 Flexi English students are taking ownership of their learning by unpacking the purpose behind their assessment tasks. With a clear, student-friendly purpose statement to guide them, students have explored and co-constructed the meanings of key cognitive terms, helping them better understand what success looks like. It’s all part of building assessment-capable learners who are ready to reflect, grow, and succeed!”

It is great to see that the work we are doing at Bellmere is being used in other settings to support the learning of students across our cluster. Well done and thank you for the hard work of all staff to support student learning.
This year we have been working with a group of schools and a maths consultant to focus on students discussing their thinking when working in maths. Next week we have 4 schools and the consultant coming to our school to work with some staff and our students. We are seeing great improvement with students being able to articulate their learning in maths which leads to a deeper understanding of what they are learning.

Over the next 2 weeks students will be discussing shifts in emotions and the thoughts and behaviours they experience in these shifts. Emotions are not static or stable, changing all the time due to many external factors and events around us. Shifts can occur in the type of emotional experience and in the intensity of response. All emotions are natural, but sometimes they feel very uncomfortable or unhelpful. With practise, we can intentionally shift our emotions by engaging in certain thoughts or behaviours. Check in with your child over the next few weeks around the strategies they have in their toolbox to support their emotional state.
Prep, Year 2 and Year 4 Swimming
Prep, Year 2 and Year 4 swimming is occurring next week (25 – 29 August). If your child is participating, please remember they will need their swimming items on 2 separate days for their Water Safety sessions. Greetings to our Bellmere Community,
School Opinion Survey – REMINDER
We only have until this Friday to complete the 2025 School Opinion Survey. Reminder that you have received the link to the primary parent/carer email inbox. If you can’t locate the email / link, check your junk folder. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.
This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve to help shape our school’s future. So far, we have had 68 responses received (of 473 invitations sent). Thank you in advance for your attention to this.
Maths Matters!!!
At Bellmere, we are committed to developing strong mathematicians by engaging students in purposeful and powerful learning routines. This year, we have been focusing on The Learner First rich routines in Mathematics – moveNprove, discussNdefend, and revisitNretain.
These routines are designed to help students go beyond simply finding an answer. Instead, they are encouraged to:
- moveNprove – test and trial their ideas, exploring different ways to solve problems.
- discussNdefend – share their thinking with others, justify their reasoning, and listen to alternative strategies.
- revisitNretain – return to prior learning to strengthen understanding and build confidence over time.
We are already seeing the benefits of these routines in classrooms. Students are developing the ability to explain their mathematical thinking clearly, consider multiple perspectives, and challenge themselves to communicate like mathematicians.
By embedding these routines, our goal is to build learners who are not only confident with numbers, but who can also reason, problem-solve, and articulate their ideas – skills that extend well beyond the maths classroom.

STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME PAYMENTS
Thank you to all parents who have made payments towards the Student Resource Scheme for 2025.
Payments can be made at anytime using the invoice BPoint link (amount can be changed to suit), via the QKR! App, direct deposit into the school bank account (BSB- 064-405 ACC – 10700604 using surname and SRS as reference) or by EFT in the office. If you made an instalment arrangement, the 3rd and final payment is due now.
We are happy to arrange alternative payment plans or Centrepay deductions if this method is not possible. Please email Sue Taylor, Business Manager, on stayl375@eq.edu.au or admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au to arrange this. Students will be able to receive their resources once a payment has been made.
QPARENTS
QParents links directly with One School, the program used by the school to store student information including personal details, absences, all report cards and finance information. Registration will need to be completed on a computer and then all further interactions can be done through the App on a phone or tablet. New parents will receive a QParents invitation code in the next week or two and current parents should already have received theirs previously. This link will guide you through the registration process. The fact sheet is provided for your information. If you cannot find your invitation email please send a request to admin@bellmeress.eq.edu and a new email will be sent to you. Your child’s EQ id is on the invoices we send you, directly below the address box at the top left of the invoice.
UNIFORM SHOP
The uniform shop will be open after school on Tuesday’s from 3:00-3.30pm.
However, QKR! ordering will remain the same and orders will still be delivered to your child’s class on Monday’s, Wednesday’s & Friday’s.
SIGN OUT PROCESS
We will continue the same sign out process for when children are leaving school early. Parents will need to come to the office, sign their children out on the iPad in the reception area. Parents will receive a printed slip which they will show the office staff who will let them through the office door. Parents will then go to the child’s classroom, give the printed slip to the teacher and collect the child. At break times the child will be called over the load speaker as it is difficult to locate the child during break times.
There will be a specialist timetable on the wall near the iPad so parents can see where their child is located in the school. Also, teachers will have a notice on their door to indicate where the class is. Eg STEM, MUSIC, PE, Library.
Steps to sign children out early:
- Sign your child out on the ipad in the foyer.
- Collect the printed sign out ticket.
- Show the office staff the ticket, they will let you into the school.
- Walk to your child’s classroom.
- Give the printed ticket to the classroom teacher.
- Collect your child and exit via the office administration.
It is very important that the school is notified of any student absences. The Department of Education requires a reason for each and every absence.
The methods for advising absences are as follows:
By email - admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au
By telephone - 5498 0666 - there is a dedicated absentee line where you can leave a message 24 hours per day.
Q Parents - if you have registered for the Q Parents app, you can advise absences this way.
On Thursday the 14th of August, some of our Solid Pathways students went to Sippy Downs University with their parents and Mrs H for a STEM experience day. We signed in at 9am and received a bag with info about the day and some Uni socks. After the introductions by the teachers, we split into 3 groups. Our group had about 15 students altogether.
Our first activity of the day was turning a lemon into a battery – after some problem solving, we managed to light up our light using the lemon.
Our second activity was Marine Biology/Robotics. We got to make some Manta Ray fingerprints. Did you know that the pattern on the manta ray's body is like its own fingerprint?
We then got to head outside with the Robodog – Ben Ben. Each of us got a turn with Ben Ben – we all managed to get him to walk and do some tricks. Ben Ben was a special guest at the EKKA this year – he got to herd some sheep at the night show.
Finally, after our lunch break, we went to the Drones. We watched a video on how Drones are used for research on whales – collecting blowhole samples (mucous) to check for bacteria. We were shown how to use the drones and went through a safety brief – then we got to collect our own fake ‘mucous’ and try and land back on the boat.
We all enjoyed the day and getting to spend it with our parents. The favourite part of our day was – Drones (Anthani and DJ) and the Lemon Physics (Bentley).
Bentley, Anthani and DJ

At Bellmere State School, we have taken great care in observing students and motorist actions in the school car park and pick up line. After our observations and in conjunction with the local council and the transport department, we believe that we have created the best and safest way to ensure that all students and their families get home safely and have a good experience when collecting their children after school.
The after school pick up line is staffed by school staff and works really well if everyone participating in this activity follows the rules that we have set in place.
The following are the rules we expect all our students and their families to follow:
- Please follow all instructions given to you by a Bellmere SS staff member – either when you are in a vehicle or waiting to cross at the crossing.
- We ask that your interactions with all staff is respectful – they have been tasked with keeping everyone safe and take their role very seriously.
- Remember to set a good example for all those around you when driving or walking – no riding scooters or bikes across crossings, waiting behind the yellow line, always using the marked crossing.
- All students being collected from the pick up line must wait inside the school grounds, on the grassed area, until called by a staff member to enter their vehicle. This is after you have crossed over both car park crossings.
- Do not cut in on other cars that are in the line waiting to collect their children.
We respectfully ask that you follow the instructions of our staff and do not let your children enter your vehicle until it has passed over both of the crossings. If they do try to enter your car before the crossing, please send them back into the school grounds to wait for you to get over both crossings and for them to be called by the staff to let them know it is safe for them to get into the car with you.
School Drop Off
The drop off lane in the carpark is for 2 minute set down only. We ask that parents do not park in the drop off lane and exit their cars. If you need to walk your children into school, please park in the carpark and use the zebra crossings to enter the school.
We appreciate your cooperation with these school rules and your assistance in helping to keep all our staff, students and motorists safe.

Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
Today at KindyLinq, we celebrated with hands-on activities that explored culture and creativity. Children enjoyed arm painting, dot painting on leaves, bark, and sticks, and created turtle art using traditional patterns.
We used playdough to make all sorts of fun things — including a dog with flippers and a Mr. Potato Head! There was also leaf rubbing, and each child received a special gift bag.
Our play spaces were full of imagination, with bristle blocks, wooden dolls, and the dollhouse in full use. We also welcomed a visit from Jade from Early Years.
Jade will be visiting KindyLinQ again in Term 4 to share information with our families!
A wonderful day of playing, learning, and cultural connection — the KindyLinq way!

All Aboard at KindyLinq – Transport Week!
Last KindyLinq, we explored all things transport! Children built roads and tracks, zoomed cars around obstacle courses, and created their own vehicles using blocks, boxes, and recycled materials.
We read stories about trains, planes, and trucks, and used songs and movement games to “fly,” “drive,” and “sail” together. The playdough table turned into a busy garage with wheels, traffic signs, and tool shapes!
Through these fun experiences, we talked about how we travel, different types of vehicles, and how transport connects us all. A day full of learning, movement, playing, creativity and fun!— the KindyLinq way!

Exciting news – Play On! has now launched!
Queensland families can now apply for $200 Play On! Sports Vouchers for each child aged between 5 and 17. Vouchers will be provided over two rounds—for summer and winter sports—with a dedicated allocation for kids in regional and country Queensland. Play On! Sports Vouchers have a strong focus on accessible sports, giving children of all abilities the chance to play.
We are also excited to announce SwimStart is back and parents across Queensland can now apply for $150 SwimStart vouchers to help cover the cost of swimming lessons for children aged 0–4 years. We encourage swim schools to register as SwimStart activity providers to attract new families, boost enrolments during quieter times, and support water safety in their community.
Wednesday 23 July marked a major milestone on the road to Brisbane 2032 — 7 years to go until Queensland hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We’re proud to have this opportunity to create a lasting legacy of participation, pride and connection, while cementing Queensland’s place as Australia’s sporting capital.
Recently, we wrapped up our statewide Sport Strategy consultation sessions, which saw 1,921 survey responses and 93 written submissions. The feedback gathered represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help shape a bold new strategy for a healthier, more active Queensland and to build a vibrant sports culture for all ages, abilities and postcodes.
Thank you, Queensland. Your energy and ideas are helping us shape the future of sport in our great state.
Warm regards,
Andrew Hopper
Director-General, Department of Sport, Racing and Olympic and Paralympic Games
We are thrilled to invite your school community to a special, free event commemorating a significant milestone in our city's history: "Brisbane 100: One City Together". This all-ages event will take place at Brisbane City Hall on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, from 10am to 4pm.
Inspired by the 1925 amalgamation that formed Greater Brisbane, this day is designed to be a fun and informative big day out for families and anyone curious about our city's past and present. It's an excellent opportunity for students to engage with local history in an interactive and memorable way.
Highlights specifically for children and families include:
• Family and Children’s Activities in the Sandgate Room: This hub of excitement offers Bazil Grumble’s drop-in workshops, interactive displays from Urban Utilities, puzzles and challenges from Just Wood Fun, and the Museum of Brisbane’s "Brisbane Now and Then" activity, where children can compare objects and photographs from the past and present.
• "Brisbane 100 Scavenger Hunt": Kids can compete for prizes while learning about our city’s history, all provided free of charge.
• "I Spy" Guided Tours: Special one-hour walking tours designed for family groups with children aged 5 to 13, inviting them to discover clues to the past 100 years in the urban landscape of the CBD.
• Engaging Community History: Learn about Brisbane's diverse cultures and the lived experiences of various ethnic communities over the last 100 years.
• First Nations Stories: Digital presentations and original art will introduce the thousands of years of stories of First Nations peoples.
Entry to "Brisbane 100: One City Together" is completely FREE. It's a fantastic educational outing that brings history to life in an accessible way for young learners and their families.
We encourage you to share this invitation with your students, parents, and staff. For more details and to plan your visit, please see: https://www.greaterbrisbanecentenary.com.au/.
We look forward to celebrating Brisbane's rich heritage with your school community!
