The Read Bears Program (Year 1)

Picture1.png

Overview:

Read Bears is a simple, but effective program aimed at Year 1 students (6-7 year olds). Students are given a hand-made, donated Read Bear with an attached tag enabling the child to personalise their bear with a name. Children take the bears home and read to them each school night. This provides children with more motivation to read books by having a "friend" to read and chat to. It also encourages parents & siblings to be involved in reading with the child at home. The Read Bears Program was initially developed as a pilot in 2019 and is based on similar programs run in Europe & Canada.

This year in 2025, HBNC is partnering with Education Queensland for our 6th year running Read Bears. The program can be run in either Term 2, 3 or 4 depending on the individual school's choice.

Our Year 1 students (1A, 1B, 1C, 1E and 1F) will receive their bear and book pack on Wednesday 5 November 2025. This will commence at 12pm in the Hall and will conclude by 1pm. Parents are welcome to attend this event but certainly understand if you cannot make it. Such a wonderful initiative for our young readers. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if your Year 1 student does not receive a pack on this day.
