Dear Parents/Carers,
ANZAC DAY CEREMONY
Last Thursday we held our annual ANZAC Day Ceremony. This was a very special service for our school community and visitors at our school. Our students were amazing during the ceremony and showed great respect for the occasion. We are very proud of our students. Our special guests commented on how wonderful our children were and how respectful they were for the occasion. Thank you to Mrs Lyons for organising the event.
Thank you to all the students and staff who were at the ANZAC Day Caboolture service on Friday morning. We had a number of staff there to support our students.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
It was wonderful seeing our parents at the Parent/Teacher interviews last night. It is always nice to hear the great learning of the students but also the great comments from our parents regarding their child’s classroom teacher and the progress their child has made.
This shows a true partnership between the school and families.
PICK UP LANE AND CARPARK EXPECTATIONS
Last week we had a Facebook post regarding our pick up lane and respect for staff and other parents. By modelling respectful behaviour, we set a positive example for our children and help to create a school culture that values kindness, patience, and understanding.
As a school community, we pride ourselves on fostering a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all students, staff, and families. We are writing to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining respectful interactions in all areas of school life.
Thank you to all parents who obey the rules and who are patient in the pick up lane at the beginning and end of the school day.
Unfortunately, we have some families who are not following the pick up procedures and are putting their child and other children at risk of being hurt by a car.
In particular, we ask for your continued cooperation during afternoon pick-up times. This is a busy period in our school day, and it’s vital that we all work together to ensure it runs smoothly and safely. We kindly remind parents and carers to:
- Speak and behave respectfully to staff, students, and other parents.
- Follow the directions of school staff supervising dismissal procedures.
- Park responsibly and safely in the right areas, observing any signage, keeping driveways clear and not parking in restricted areas.
- Be patient and courteous, even during peak congestion times.
- Children are not to enter cars prior to the first zebra crossing. The pick up zone, where it is safe for children to enter, is between the zebra crossing and the dental van undercover area.
- Cars are not to pull out of the pick up lane prior to the first zebra crossing as this halts traffic and is dangerous for other children. Weaving in and out of the line is not appropriate and is unsafe.
- If you are wanting to get out of your car to pick up your child, please park in the car park.
- If you are in the pick up zone, please stay in your car at all times.
- Follow the car in front.
It is important that we all follow the expectations so that we keep all our children safe. It was also posted in week 4 of Term 1. The Leadership team are continuing to work with parents who don’t follow the expectations.
HEAD TO HEALTH
I am very excited to announce a partnership with Head to Health Kids.
Head to Health offer free mental health and wellbeing support for children up to 12, with developmental, behavioural, and, or emotional challenges.
Please come along and meet the team. There will be time for you to be able to talk to the team about your child if you have any questions.
Please see the email that was sent to all parents last Wednesday 23rd April.
GUIDANCE OFFICER
Over the next 2 weeks, we acknowledge the work of our Guidance Officers in State Schools. At the beginning of term, we had a new Guidance Officer begin at Bellmere SS. Her name is Brooke Roza. We welcome Brooke to Bellmere. Please reach out and say hello when you see her.

PCL Update
This term classes will be focussing on the following strategies and concepts from Zones of Regulation and Berry Street:
* Use the Zones of Regulation to explain and express how we are feeling
* Understand the emotions of others
* Understand ways I can interact positively with my peers, my teachers and other school staff
* Use the Zones of Regulation to explain and express how we are feeling
* Recognise what our individual triggers are for being stressed
* Know which strategies we can use to help us regulate and be ready to learn
* Have a growth mindset
* Use our care plans to help us be ready for learning
* Use my classroom calming tools and calm down space when I feel triggered
Under 8’s Day
Our Under 8’s Day celebration will be occurring on Wednesday 21 May between 9 – 10:30am. All students in Prep to Year 2 will be participating in this event. There will be lots of fun activities to engage in throughout this celebration. Parents are welcome to attend and join in the fun. More information to come in our next newsletter.
Prep Vision Screening
This service is delivered by the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program that is coming to Bellmere State School and is run by the Queensland Government offering free Vision Screening to all students enrolled in Prep. If you have not yet registered your Prep child for this service, please visit the school office for a paper copy of the required consent form.
Screening commencement date: Thursday 15 May 2025
Prep 2026
Over the coming weeks there will be further information shared in preparation for Prep 2026. This will commence with parent information sessions (you only need to attend one of these sessions) occurring on:
* Thursday 8 May @ 4:00pm
* Tuesday 3 June @ 4:30pm
We look forward to welcoming new and current families to these sessions.
Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
In Term 2, students in Years 2 to 6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.
We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students, especially assisting in the focus areas of our Zones of Regulation and Berry Street learnings at Bellmere State School.
Please find further information attached below. If you do not wish for your child to participate in this anonymous survey, please notify your child’s teacher as soon as possible. This survey will be completed throughout Weeks 2 – 4 this term, depending on when teachers schedule this into their daily timetables.
From the Deputy Principal - Mrs Lyons
Greetings to our Bellmere Community,
ANZAC Ceremony
On Thursday 24 April, 9:15. We held our ANZAC ceremony. I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank a number of people:
- Our student leaders who lead our ceremony with pride and care.
- Our wreath bearers who respectfully laid wreaths for their classes
- Our student council members who sold the merchandise with funds returning to the Sandgate RSL
- Our instrumental music teacher Ms Edwards who played the Last Post and the Reveille
- Our families who joined us for this special event.
An unexpected wonderful part of our ceremony was the impromptu singing of our students. The students started singing Halleluiah in hushed tones as our special guest left the hall, beautiful.
Volunteer Induction
We are certainly fortunate at Bellmere to have the support from our families and volunteers. We have our volunteer induction session for Term 2 booked for this Wednesday, 30 April, 2:00.
If you are looking to volunteer in 2025 and have not completed a Volunteer Induction, please complete the booking link in this newsletter to register your participation. The session normally takes about 45 minutes. Thank you for your support to our school community. Your contribution is valued.
Yours in Education,
Tanya Lyons
From the Deputy Principal - Mr Caudwell
Greetings to our Bellmere Community,
I hope you had a great mid-semester break and were able to enjoy time with family and friends over the Easter period. Welcome back to another term at Bellmere SS!
Mathematics at Bellmere - moveNprove
We are excited to introduce a new teaching initiative across our classrooms: MoveNProve. This approach is designed to give teachers deeper insight into what students understand in mathematics—not just whether they get the right answer, but how and why they arrived at it.
MoveNProve encourages students to make a choice in their mathematical thinking and, most importantly, to justify their answer. This promotes rich mathematical discussions, deeper reasoning skills, and greater student engagement. Whether they are using concrete materials, visual representations, or verbal explanations, students are actively making their thinking visible.
We are already seeing the positive impact of MoveNProve in classrooms through a high level of engagement and enjoyment from the students. As students become more confident in articulating their reasoning and teachers gain a clearer picture of where each learner is at, we are hoping to be targeted in supporting students to develop their skills. We look forward to sharing more about this initiative as it continues to grow.

Hello Bellmere State School community,
My name is Brooke Roza and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as your new Guidance Officer!
I feel incredibly honoured to be joining such a vibrant and caring school. My role here is to support you and your students —whether that’s helping with your personal challenges, your child’s wellbeing, any social/emotional concerns you have for your child, or just being someone to talk to when you need it.
I believe in creating a safe, inclusive, and positive space where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered.
I’ve always been passionate about helping others navigate life’s ups and downs, and I’m here to walk alongside you as you grow, learn, and achieve your individual goals.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing softball and spending time camping with my family.
If you ever have any concerns regarding your student, please feel free to drop in through the front office and alternatively book an appointment to discuss supporting you and your family.
I am excited to meet each of you and support you on the journey of raising young people!
Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
Warm regards,
Brooke Roza
Guidance Officer
STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME PAYMENTS
Thank you to all parents who have made payments towards the Student Resource Scheme for 2025.
Payments can be made at anytime using the invoice BPoint link (amount can be changed to suit), via the QKR! App, direct deposit into the school bank account (BSB- 064-405 ACC – 10700604 using surname and SRS as reference) or by EFT in the office. If you made an instalment arrangement, the 3rd and final payment was due back in Week 10 of Term 2.
We are happy to arrange alternative payment plans or Centrepay deductions if this method is not possible. Please email Sue Taylor, Business Manager, on stayl375@eq.edu.au or admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au to arrange this. Students will be able to receive their resources once a payment has been made.
QPARENTS
QParents links directly with One School, the program used by the school to store student information including personal details, absences, all report cards and finance information. Registration will need to be completed on a computer and then all further interactions can be done through the App on a phone or tablet. New parents will receive a QParents invitation code in the next week or two and current parents should already have received theirs previously. This link will guide you through the registration process. The fact sheet is provided for your information. If you cannot find your invitation email please send a request to admin@bellmeress.eq.edu and a new email will be sent to you. Your child’s EQ id is on the invoices we send you, directly below the address box at the top left of the invoice.
UNIFORM SHOP
The uniform shop will be open after school on Tuesday’s from 3:00-3.30pm.
However, QKR! ordering will remain the same and orders will still be delivered to your child’s class on Monday’s, Wednesday’s & Friday’s.
SIGN OUT PROCESS
We will continue the same sign out process for when children are leaving school early. Parents will need to come to the office, sign their children out on the iPad in the reception area. Parents will receive a printed slip which they will show the office staff who will let them through the office door. Parents will then go to the child’s classroom, give the printed slip to the teacher and collect the child. At break times the child will be called over the load speaker as it is difficult to locate the child during break times.
There will be a specialist timetable on the wall near the iPad so parents can see where their child is located in the school. Also, teachers will have a notice on their door to indicate where the class is. Eg STEM, MUSIC, PE, Library.
Steps to sign children out early:
- Sign your child out on the ipad in the foyer.
- Collect the printed sign out ticket.
- Show the office staff the ticket, they will let you into the school.
- Walk to your child’s classroom.
- Give the printed ticket to the classroom teacher.
- Collect your child and exit via the office administration.
It is very important that the school is notified of any student absences. The Department of Education requires a reason for each and every absence.
The methods for advising absences are as follows:
By email - admin@bellmeress.eq.edu.au
By telephone - 5498 0666 - there is a dedicated absentee line where you can leave a message 24 hours per day.
Q Parents - if you have registered for the Q Parents app, you can advise absences this way.
Welcome to KindyLinQ!
KindyLinQ is held every Tuesday during the school Term from 8:45-11:45am. Registration forms are available from the school office or contact 07 5498 0666 for more information.
Our first KindyLinQ session for Term 2 was a splash of fun! We started off by becoming plumbers, crafting our own plumbers and tool belts. Using team-building skills, we built a fort and then dove into some water play—cutting pool noodles, pipe cleaners, and splashing around under the sun!
The kids worked on fine motor skills, using tweezers to pick up pom poms with great focus and concentration. We also set up a mini obstacle course to boost balance and coordination. We also remembered ANZAC Day with a creative activity using coloured paper and paper plates to make poppies.

What an exciting day we had filled with Easter fun! We decorated foam eggs with contact paper—perfect for building fine motor skills—and hunted for the hidden bunny in our sensory tray. The kids crafted Easter crowns, went on a thrilling egg hunt, and painted giant Easter eggs. We even fed bunny-coloured pellets to our furry friend! To finish, we enjoyed the story "We Are Going on an Easter Egg Hunt." It was a day full of creativity, adventure, and Easter joy!
